CFX_IMAP4 is built upon the proven message handling technology of CFX_POP3 and provides unprecedented access of IMAP servers to the Cold Fusion programmer in a simple to install CFX tag. CFX_IMAP4 incorporates all of the reliability and functionality that users of CFX_POP3 have come to know and trust, extending it by making available features that are only present when using the IMAP protocol to manage e-mail.

CFX_IMAP4 permits the Cold Fusion programmer to directly manage any mailbox (including full support for I18N (CFX_IMAP4 supports over 130 codepage conversion tables)) on an IMAP4rev1 server and includes full support for several extensions to the IMAP protocol. When in use, CFX_IMAP4 can intelligently adapt itself to the server environment that you use taking advantage of any extra features that it can provide giving an even greater level of integration with your Cold Fusion applications.

CFX_IMAP4 is fully capable of working in the largest of enterprise systems with support for distributed IMAP servers that implement the LOGIN-REFERRAL protocol extension (rfc2221), seamlessly re-connecting to another mail server that it has been referred to by the original connection.

As well as supporting the IMAP version 4 rev 1 standard, CFX_IMAP4 also supports the SMTP protocol and is fully capable of authenticated connections using standard 'Simple Authentication and Security Layer' mechanisms such as CRAM-MD5, LOGIN and PLAIN. Again CFX_IMAP4 is capable of identifying which mechanisms are available to it on the server and automatically chooses the strongest mechanism possible for the authentication process.

The SMTP functionality of CFX_IMAP4 does not stop at being able to connect and send mail through a local SMTP server, you can also enable a full SMTP engine to send e-mails directly to their destination negating the need for any SMTP mail server at all.

CFX_IMAP4's mail sending capabilities provide full multipart/alternative capablilties complete with embedded images and text based alternative content. Whilst sending a mail, CFX_IMAP4 also uploads the mail to the IMAP mailbox of your choice so you can access your sent mails through any standard desktop mail client such as Microsoft Outlook or Eudora, just as if you had sent the mail with it in the first place!

CFX_IMAP4 fully implements the following RFC documents.

CFX_IMAP4 features all of the above functionality together with SPAM filtering capabilities, true headers only retrieval, values returned for recent, unread and total message counts, rapid full mail parsing and the ability tomanage a users entire mailbox structure allowing full navigation of all the folders it contains.

Logging capabilities are built into all versions of the CFX_IMAP4 tags that we distribute, providing excellent troubleshooting and auditing functions for the actions of the tag and its users.
